St. Michael is one of the Archangels. “Michael” means “Who is like God?” and is the battle cry of the Army of God. The word “Angel” depicts the occasion in which a heavenly spirit delivers messages of God. Archangel denotes character of messages that are of great importance. Devotional writings about Michael can be found in Muslim, Christian, and Jewish cultures. He is considered the Guardian Angel of Israel. He concealed the tomb of Moses to prevent the Jews from the sin of hero-worship, the sin which Satan had hoped to lead them to commit. He took the name Gaius Julius Caesar Octavianus (Octavian) in 44 B.C. after the murder of his great Uncle, Julius Caesar, who adopted Octavian and made him his heir. Octavian was a shrewd, brilliant, and astute politician. What this statue represents is typically identified with Roman leadership. As Augustus raises his arm and addresses his troops, a small cupid tugs at his leg, thereby, symbolically aligning him with the Roman Gods.
